_SPUDPEACHES_

Kyla is a concept designer and illustrator based in Wellington. She is a current student at Massey University.

Her work will focus on homunculus as an embodiment of a person's desire, an observation and critique into what constitutes humanity and life. Her work will display homunculus as representation of what individuals desire for themselves. The addition and removal of certain aspects of a person in the creation of a homunculus reflects on the creator's subconscious desires for those modifications to be made to themselves; an impossible dream.

Kyla’s work will be traditional art across mediums such as watercolour and gouache. She will create a range of works visualising a variety of traits that are invisibly enveloped within the human form, such as family, hobbies, and work.

_DONNYCLAWS_

I’m Caelan (Also known as Donnyclaws), a multi-media monster! Recent graduate from Massey University’s Bachelor of Design degree, majoring in Concept design. I’m a horror movie and alternate Drag buff. Deeply fixated on exploring body horror, repulsion, reclamation and sexuality through a trans, disabled and traumatized lens. My experiences leak into all my work, and delving into gallery spaces with physical projects has really let me push my practice in a way that I’m excited to explore further.

The homunculus is a creature of great sexual and somatosensory dysfunction. A body neurologically at odds with itself. Playing with the idea of the cortical homunculus, but instead of focusing on the motor and sensory function of a healthy brain I’ll be focusing mine. The ways a developmentally and cognitively damaged brain leads to an alien feeling within your own body. Translating regular stimuli into chronic pain, heightened sensitivity, illness, fatigue and a sense of sexual dysfunction socially and physically. The final piece will be a sculpture / physical project.

!TAYLOR_WONG!

Hi! I’m Taylor (she/her), an illustrator, concept artist, and a recent graduate with a bachelor of design, majoring in concept design. Enjoyer of surreal fantasy and sci-fi, mainly a digital artist but grew up painting. Also does sewing sometimes. I am planning to dry my homunculus and pin it to a board like a butterfly. Looking at preservation and display after death, the oxymoron of something created with the purpose of dying.

_PLUPLO_

Humonculoid freak. Wither and die. Malice born, made to kill me. You hate me, I know you do. I will kill you. I will kill you dead. I will paint you on the walls, and you will be in your second best form. Rather I never had to deal with you. I hate you.

I have many feelings about humanity, I think us all humonculus. Cosmic Accidents. Much love to the Party goers. See you there.

_GABE_ADAMS_

Sitting within the realm of anything but queer is a boring reality I do not wish to live in. Instead I dream to toe the line of liminality much like I do with my own experiences with gender and appearance. Because of this I see the homunculus as a perfect title to explore these themes under. As I alter my body and dive deeper into ideas of transcending the biological limitations of my assigned sex, and thus following posthumanism ideals, I wish to father offspring to mirror this artificial existence as a queer manlike thing.

I plan to make my creations through a myriad of materials such as acrylic paint, glitter, buttons, fabric etc. This collectic style not only reflects a queer culture of glitter and eye-catching theatrics, but also reflects a defiance of what is biological to whatever animal I frankenstein into a homunculus form.

_PUNKSNARL_

Yo, I'm Jesse (he/him), I'm a programmer, artist and resident tech nerd with no regards for personal safety. Majoring in game development at Massey University. I like making little guys and dissecting them, but they like it too so it's ok. They call me the idiot savant.

I plan to explore the digital homunculus and tear it apart. I plan to be torn apart. Such is the way of things.

SPOOPY_APPLE

Greetings my vial creatures and petri dishturbances!! 🧪🧫⚗️

Modern science shuns me by the name Astrid Applin (she/her), though I also dwell these realms under the moniker @spoopy.apple 🍏💀

For years I’ve been perfecting my alchemy within the Massey dungeons, a now concept design graduate! My fascination of peculiar creatures and pondering the human experience knows no bounds! At long last I will be unleashing my creation, a specimen of near humanity! Though small and falling to pieces, I assure you my homunculus will be enduring the most insurmountable of feats to achieve unfathomable expectations! Through pain, grit and a smidgeon of transmutation, this will be a party to never forget! GUAHAHAHAHA! YES! ☠️🥳🍏

BILLIE_IHAKA

i am billie. i bring you entities from a freshly sentient void. the void was a world of nothing, but is now trying to replace its nothingness through imitating and creating life from the other dimensions. it's tried to make a human this time... it tried it's best.

billie ihaka (@billieihak.art) is a recent concept graduate slowly teetering through the world with many projects, demon girls, creatures, and unfinished illustrations kept in an interdimensional bag carried with her everywhere. don't reach inside.

_ATLAS_

My names Atlas, you can find me on bsky @/sqwormy. Fresh blood from California, I moved to Aotearoa to be with my lovely partner and to get a fresh start out on my own in life and in art. I have a passion for creating my own monsters with clay, and my works often explore the dichotomy between what’s unsettling and cute. I hope to explore the definition of self and creation of life/identity in my work for this exhibit as a reflection of my experience with rebuilding my own identity.

FRANCIS_REID

Kia ora! I'm Francis (they/it), recent Massey Graduate, emerging artist, illustrator, lover of all things eldritch, horrific and weird. You can find my work on Tumblr and Bsky as AsinineStars.

Within the Homunculus Party I'm looking to explore the limitations of human gender and physicality, and how considering oneself a beast can be a freeing, affirming experience. I want to look at my own identity and transformation without the confines of traditional humanity.

_CHRS_

Kia Ora, My name is Chris, I’m a design student at Massey University Wellington.
I draw dadaist creatures with a lot of eyes and symbolism. I am interested in multimedia and interdisciplinary practice, I will be using collage, sculpture, and painting to harness the essence of the homunculus. Outside of art, I enjoy gardening, wandering, and writing 💥

I am Project leading the Homunculus Party. I have a fascination for these fake creatures, and I am glad and honoured to find a widespread appreciation of the ever eclectic Homunculus. Thank you to everyone who has supported this project including the 12 Alchemists who made Things.
